How a conservationist became your gardener.

  1. Where it began

    A farming background

    Ashley's connection to gardening runs deeper than most, and it started on the land.

  2. The training

    Formally trained in nature conservation

    Not just years on the job. The planting follows from the training: indigenous fynbos, the coastal vegetation naturally suited to this stretch of the Cape.

  3. The estate

    17 hectares in Hout Bay

    Years managing a 17-hectare estate garden, before bringing that experience home to the Cape Whale Coast.

  4. 2014

    Home, and a company of our own

    Ashley Banwell Gardens was founded in 2014 by Ashley and her husband Neville, based in Betty's Bay.

  5. Today

    The same crew, year after year

    Most of the team has been with Ashley for seven to ten years, built up together from the start. No subcontractors, and everyone is cross-trained.
